One Truth About Me

All the members of the human species that ever "got" me gave me gifts that would be of little or no significance to most other women.
They understood that a piece of rare lavender scrap from the rainforest used to make their final project was more fitting than any purchased gift.
Or that a small slab of turquoise purchased after their climb up Mt Katahdin would have great import to me.

This tradition of
Smelted metal
And rocks
And feathers
And strange
Pieces of wood
Began in my teen years
And carries on
Still today

Oddly though
These people
That understand me
So well
Never seem
To stay

They drift away
As their
Found tokens
Arrived

Silently
And suddenly

Yet
I still
Have
Their
Talismans
